Google Cloud Platform: Types Of Tools Available And Core Computing Products

With the continuous digital transformation, Google keeps on innovating and changing the rules to stay relevant and remain on the top of the technology market. That is why the Google Cloud services are also kept on growing as well.

Google Cloud, also known as Google Cloud Platform (GCP),  is a computing resource provider for designing, deploying, and running Web-based applications. It provides services for computing, storage, networking, big data, machine learning, and internet of things (IoT) services, and even cloud management, security, and developer tools.

With that, here are Google Cloud Platform’s core cloud computing products.

Google Compute Engine

This is an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) provider that gives consumers virtual machine instances to host workloads.

Google App Engine

This is a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) that provides access to Google’s scalable hosting to software developers. Also, a software developer kit (SDK) can be utilized by developers to create software products that operate on App Engine.

Google Cloud Storage

This cloud storage platform is intended for storing massive amounts of unstructured data. Google also provides database storage choices, such as Cloud Datastore for non-relational NoSQL storage, Cloud SQL for fully relational MySQL storage, and Google’s native Cloud Bigtable database.

Google Container Engine

This Docker container management and orchestration solution operate on the Google Cloud Platform. Google Container Engine is built on Google Kubernetes, a container orchestration engine.

Now, to navigate the GCP’s products,  you have to consider which solutions are available based on your primary computing needs. Is it infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), or software-as-a-service (SaaS)?

  1. IaaS enables IT to operate virtual machines without investing in or managing computing hardware. When the workload is transient, experimental, or prone to unforeseen fluctuations, IT will frequently choose an IaaS solution.
  2. PaaS is a cloud computing model, which a third-party supplier provides customers with hardware and software tools via the internet. As a result, PaaS relieves developers of installing on-premises hardware and software to develop or execute a new application.
  3. SaaS, also called cloud application services, is the most often used option for businesses. Most SaaS programs run immediately through your web browser. Thus no downloads or installations are required on the clientside.
